Hi.

Welcome to Lovely and Brave! Here you will find a glimpse into my motherhood journey - the ups and downs and every wonderful thing in between.

Sharing a Room with a Baby

Sharing a Room with a Baby

15 months of room-sharing with my Millie (Amelia) have officially come to a close. She moved into her big sisters’ room and she couldn’t be happier! I am not happy about the night time wake ups she’s sure to have, but I am excited to have a space just for my husband and I in our small home.

I didn’t intend to room-share for 15 (and a half) months, but it came naturally to me this time around. I moved my older girls to their own room at about 4 months old. They were ready, I was ready, and the crib didn’t fit in my room at our old apartment. Although we still live in a 2-bedroom home, we made it work to have the crib in our room. Space was a concern when it came to keeping her in my room, as opposed to moving her into her sisters’ room, but mostly, I just didn’t feel ready. As each month went by and Millie got older, I still didn’t feel pulled to move her out of my room.

I wanted to keep her close to me, and I don’t regret it at all. I loved pulling her into my bed when she woke up to nurse, and I learned how to safely cosleep for the nights that she needed to be next to her mama. I don’t think it’s a bad habit. I chose not to sleep train and instead follow her natural cues. Some nights were harder than others, but now she sleeps through the night most nights. Millie still nurses, so I will probably still bring her to my room some nights.

And yes, all three of my girls now share a room. Even if we had more bedrooms, I think they would still choose to be close to each other. Their bond has grown so much recently. It’s so precious to watch their relationship grow. Their love for each other is beautiful and it makes me so proud to be their mom.

My next project is to make my bedroom look more like a grown-up bedroom and less like a storage space for baby items we don’t need anymore. Wish me luck!

This is how Jeremy and I decorated the wall above her crib when it was in our room.

The paintings were custom made by my sister. Her shop is Monique’s Paintbrush.
